Keeping Our Sanity During Baby's First Year

January Shape Up

This isn’t the best picture, but this is me now, almost 11 weeks postpartum. Not too bad, but now it is time to really shape up. I am going back to work in 3 weeks and I still can’t fit into my work clothes. Oops.

I said before that the weight will eventually fall off, but I should have said that all the weight except for 10 lbs will fall off. I gained about 30 lbs during pregnancy and 20 fell off within the first couple weeks. This last 10 has been a struggle, especially with the holidays. And it is not just the extra lbs that are the problem. My body is also shaped differently – overly round in some places, depressingly flat in others.

I haven’t dieted at all because my doctor told me dieting could affect my milk supply but I am going to try to eat healthier without cutting calories. I am also focusing on getting back to the gym. My husband and I have started to alternate gym days. Going to the gym every other day has become great “me” time – it is amazing how I no longer dread the gym since any time away from the baby is a nice break. I come back refreshed and in a much better mood.

Today I am going to go buy some new workout clothes since my sport bras don’t seem to support me very well when I try to run (thanks, Milk) and my tops ride up over my post-preg tummy (nice). Plus, having new gear is always inspiring.

I will report on my progress next week. My goal is to lose 3 lbs and fit into my “fat” jeans. Fingers crossed!
